Welcome to Our 2012 - 2013 Season!
Dear Friends:
Since 1979, Chorale Acadienne has been enthralling audiences throughout South Louisiana with timeless choral music. Over the years, our audiences have been entertained,
informed, moved and, even blessed by musical masterpieces from pens as varied as Bach and Moses Hogan, Brahms and George Gershwin and Beethoven and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
That tradition continues this October, as Chorale opens its 34th Season with a unique concert at Vermilionville celebrating the rich musical heritage of the Acadian people.
You'll hear a host of traditional tunes delightfully set as solos, duets, trios as well as for the full ensemble. The culmination of the evening will be a performance of
the Messe Acadienne, written by long-time UL faculty member, Dr. Charles Reynolds and re-orchestrated this summer especially for Chorale.
In early December, we invite you to join with the many across Acadiana who make the annual journey to magnificent St. John's Cathedral for Chorale's Christmas By
Candlelight concerts. From Gregorian chant to selections from Handel's Messiah to Pinkham's Christmas Cantata, Chorale's message is "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!"
March will find Chorale in a particularly playful mood as Moonlight and Music, our annual dinner, silent auction and concert, pays tribute to the popular music of the 1950's.
Maybe we'll even show off the Petroleum Club's newly refurbished dance floor for the Peppermint Twist!
Chorale's 34th season culminates in early May with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Requiem for soprano, tenor, treble, chorus and orchestra. Premiered in New York in February 1985 by
Placido Domingo, Sarah Brightman and the combined choirs of St. Thomas Church and Winchester Cathedral with Lorin Maazel conducting, the work is an intensely personal
memorial to the composer's father. You may have heard the beautiful "Pie Jesu" duet. It has been recorded separately by Sarah Brightman, Marie Osmond and
Charlotte Church, among others. The duet is often sung as a Communion prayer as well.
It's our privilege to offer these concerts to you. I look forward to seeing you in October at Vermilionville and throughout the coming season.
